Chairperson of the SASSFE management Committee, Tiego Moseneke, congratulates SASSFE Trustee, Prof Mamokgethi Phakeng, on her appointment as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Town (UCT).
Moseneke believes that Prof Phakeng has “all the qualities that will make her a very effective Vice-Chancellor and we look forward to continuing our work with Prof Phakeng as we seek to make higher education more accessible to poor students in South Africa”.
The UCT Council announced on Saturday that is has chosen Professor Phakeng, as the new Vice-Chancellor of the university, with effect from July 1, 2018.
Professor Phakeng, who is currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Internationalisation, will take over from Dr Max Price, who has been UCT’s Vice-Chancellor since 2008.
Chair of UCT Council Sipho Pityana on behalf of the Council said that Council has made the decision to appoint Phakeng following a competitive selection process.
